Rehabilitating Living Environments
Our passion for integrating heritage into contemporary life grew out of our work in geographies where centuries of architectural and cultural heritage are under threat. What started 20 years ago as a project to rehabilitate housing around the Giza Pyramids of Egypt has become a key offering of OHK, through which we influence the evolution of historic cities, town centers, villages, and historic buildings. When our clients ask us to intervene, we address issues like preservation, retrofitting, regeneration, and adaptive reuse not only through physical design and planning, but also in terms of economics, management, and sustainability.
Our keen attention to the cultural and financial implications of rehabilitation projects makes us particularly effective in bridging the gap between local community needs and global tastes. We do not see heritage as a past to be romanticized but rather as a platform for continued evolution, creating new senses of belonging and celebrating diversity.
